Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse: release date, plot, cast and trailer

Marvel have dropped the second official trailer for animated superhero sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

The three-minute clip has offered some more tantilising details about the upcoming blockbuster, including showing the titular hero facing off against a new villain. Across the Spider-Verse picks up after the acclaimed and Oscar-winning 2018 film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

In the film, Miles Morales meets Spider-People from across the Multiverse, with many fan-favourite Spider-Men making their feature debut. It comes from directorial trio Joaquim Dos Santos, Justin K. Thompson and Kemp Powers, with The Lego Movie writer-directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller penning the script alongside Dave Callaham.

The trailer shows off more of the film’s animation, with different styles used to represent a multitude of Multiverses. It also boasts countless Spider-People from across comic books, TV and other media, while the iconic Spider-Man pointing meme has even been recreated in the film.

Across the Spider-Verse marks the first of a two-part sequel, set to be followed by Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse in March 2024. Here is everything you need to know about Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse:

What is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse about?

After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People led by the futuristic Spider-Man 2099. The Spider-Force are charged with protecting the Multiverse’s very existence, but when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.

Who is in the cast of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse?

Across the Spider-Verse sees several of the original cast members return to lend their voices, while another Marvel star joins the team in a major role. Singer and actor Shameik Moore reprises his role as Miles Morales, the film’s ‘main’ Spider-Man.

Hawkeye star Hailee Steinfeld returns as Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman, Miles’ love interest who returned from her universe in the closing scene of the first film. Jake Johnson also returns as Peter B. Parker, an older version of Spider-Man from an alternate universe who mentored Miles in the first film.

Get Out star Daniel Kaluuya joins the cast as Hobart “Hobie” Brown/Spider-Punk, a British, punk rock version of Spider-Man. Karan Soni is Pavitr Prabhakar/Spider-Man India, an Indian version of Spider-Man.

Atlanta star Brian Tyree Henry and former Dexter actress Luna Lauren Vélez also return as Miles’ parents Jefferson Davis and Rio Morales. Jason Schwartzman lends his voice as the film’s villain Jonathan Ohnn/The Spot, a supervillain whose body is covered by interdimensional portals that allow him to travel through the Multiverse.

The big name joining the cast is Star Wars and Moon Knight star Oscar Isaac, who plays Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099, a Spider-Man from an alternate universe in the year 2099 and the leader of the Spider-Force. Fan-favourite Spider-Man Noir – played by Nicolas Cage in Into the Spider-Verse – is not returning for the sequel.
