Spider-Man: Brand New Day (aka Spider-Man 4) is almost here, and we just got a new trailer ahead of the next chapter in the MCU hitting theatres. That's right, Tom Holland will return as Peter Parker for his fourth solo go-round in the upcoming Marvel movie, and thanks to some timeline antics, the events of this film will give us some major clues about the direction of the two new Avengers films on the horizon as well.

In fact, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will take place in between Fantastic Four: First Steps and Avengers: Doomsday (out in December), bringing in characters such as Jon Bernthal's Punisher, Mark Ruffalo's Hulk, and more. So yeah, you'll want to be prepared before you check out Spidey's next big web-slinging outing for sure. And that is where we come in. In this guide, we've gathered all the latest news and updates to breakdown everything you need to know about Spider-Man 4, including the release date, plot details and theories, confirmed cast, trailers, and more.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day release date

The Spider-Man 4 release date is July 31, 2026, with the movie releasing as part of Marvel Phase 6.

It was originally slated for July 24 before it was pushed back a week, possibly to avoid clashing with Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, which also stars Tom Holland and is due to be released on July 17.

Filming started in Glasgow in September 2025, before moving to Leavesden Studios in Watford. The production paused temporarily at the end of September 2025 after Tom Holland was taken to hospital following a stunt accident, but it seems it wasn't anything serious.

Is there a Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer?

Yes! The first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day dropped on March 18, 2026, and it is a beauty. You can watch it for yourself above.

In the clip, we see Peter dealing with MJ not remembering him from the events of the last movie, as well as a whole bunch of new villains. There are masked baddies, and a scene that seems to be Scorpion in action as well. However, we didn't get to see any shots of Sadie Sink's character (unlike previous leaks suggested we would).

In December 2025, a first trailer was leaked online, featuring first glimpses at Sadie Sink's mystery character and Bruce Banner's return, as Peter asks him for help. We also hear a voiceover from Tombstone, and the Punisher makes a gunslinging cameo. Unfortunately, this leaked clip was removed, but at least we now have the real deal to watch again and again.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day cast

Tom Holland and Stranger Things star Sadie Sink were the first confirmed cast members for Spider-Man 4, with Sink's role still being kept under wraps (although fans think she might be playing Jean Grey). Zendaya will be back as MJ Watson, and Jacob Batalon is returning as Ned, but it's unclear what kind of role they would play, as they won't know who Peter is after the events of No Way Home.

As for new characters, Sony boss Amy Pascal teased that "there’s a lot of fantastic female characters" in the movie, so it looks like we can expect some fresh faces to join the cast. As for who that could be, you'll have to stay tuned.

Below is the list of the confirmed Spider-Man: Brand New Day cast so far:

  • Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
  • Sadie Sink
  • Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher
  • Zendaya as MJ Watson
  • Jacob Batalon as Ned
  • Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk

Spider-Man: Brand New Day plot

Good news! There is now an official plot synopsis for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and you can read it for yourself below:

"Four years have gone by since we last caught up with our friendly neighborhood hero. Peter Parker is no more, but Spider-Man is at the top of his game keeping New York City safe. Things are going well for our anonymous hero until an unusual trail of crimes pulls him into a web of mystery larger than he's ever faced before. In order to take on what’s ahead, Spider-Man not only needs to be at the top of his physical and mental game, but he must also be prepared to face the repercussions of his past!"

Spider-Man: No Way Home ended with Peter realizing that the only way to protect the sanctity of the multiverse is to erase himself from everyone's memories, including his loved ones. So he'll likely be dealing with that; however, the film's title also points to the plot taking inspiration from Marvel comics as well. Brand New Day is a direct reference to a divisive comic book storyline that ran in 2008 and was essentially a soft reboot for Peter Parker.

In the story, he agreed to Mephisto's terms to sacrifice his marriage to Mary-Jane in order to save the life of his Aunt May. We don't know if this storyline will be important for the upcoming movie, but it could fit well with the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Especially since Mephisto made his MCU debut in Ironheart...

Another clue could be found in the casting of Sadie Sink. If the rumors are true and she is playing Jean Grey (or Firestar…), then we can expect some sort of crossover between Spider-Man and the X-Men. Kevin Feige previously said that the X-Men would be an "important part" of the MCU's future after Avengers: Secret Wars arrives in 2027, so it would make sense to lay the groundwork for that in the movies directly preceding Secret Wars.

On the flip side, the movie might go in the opposite direction and avoid all the big cosmic stuff altogether. "I think there's a promise at the end of No Way Home that, for as sad as it is, Peter is forgotten by everyone in his life. We are seeing for the first time in the Tom Holland Spider-Man stories, him being a proper Spider-Man. Him being, by himself, dedicated to saving the city, and dealing with – for lack of a better term – street level crime as opposed to world-ending events that he faced when working with the other characters," Feige recently told GamesRadar+ and other outlets.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day in the Marvel timeline

One thing that seems pretty set in stone is Brand New Day's place on the Marvel timeline. Set photos recently revealed signage for an in-universe construction project, which is due to finish in December 2027. That puts the events of the movie around the same time as Thunderbolts*, which takes place in late 2027.

In January 2026, director Destin Daniel Cretton teased a "tonal shift" for the upcoming movie in the MCU timeline. "All the creatives involved when I came on board wanted to do something that felt different. Of course, it's still the Spider-Man that everybody loves, but this is a new chapter in his life, and that tonal shift was something that was really exciting to me. It felt really different, and it was an extremely gratifying experience."
