Spice Girls’ fans have been left disappointed after a recent post from the girl band fuelled speculation that the group may be making a comeback.
In a video shared on the group’s Instagram page on Wednesday, September 8, a newspaper with an advert calling for fans who can “sing and dance” can be seen sitting on a staircase.
The paper, a mockup of The Stage, has been placed on the stairs of London’s St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, which they used in their 1996 “Wannabe” music video.
The advert reads: “R U a Spice Girls fan with the ability to sing and dance? R U a superfan, a collector, a music lover?
“Spice Girls are a widely successful, global, choreographed, singing/dancing all female pop act with a record nine number ones in the UK and over 100 million global sales.
“Thursday 10th September at 2 o’clock BST. No sheet music required. But you will need a vinyl or CD player.”
The clip’s caption simply read: “10.09.2026 | 2pm BST.”
Some fans had believed that the girl group, who last reunited for a tour back in 2019, could be teasing at a comeback tour.
“Don’t play with my feelings please,” begged one fan, whilst another exclaimed: “‘WHAT IS HAPPENING!!!”
However, the video has not been teasing a reunion, but instead the upcoming release of previously unheard demos as part of anniversary box set.
The Singles Collection will be made up of two limited-edition 14-disc box sets and will be released on 7” colour vinyl and CD on November 6.
It marks the 30th anniversary of their debut album Spice and is the first-ever complete collection of all the group’s singles, including B-sides and previously unreleased recordings.
Reacting to the news, fans couldn’t help but express their disappointment.
“As grateful as we are …..where’s the over 30s tour announcement,” questioned one, whilst another said: “Negotiating with my husband on my price cap for Spice Girls tickets today was for NOTHING.”
“I hear the millennial sign of devastation from across the world,” joked another.
The iconic girl group, comprised of Sporty Spice, Baby Spice, Posh Spice, Scary Spice and Ginger Spice, formed in 1994 and released their debut single “Wannabe” two years later.
They went on to dominate the 1990s pop scene, becoming the girl group with the most chart-toppers to their name before their split in 2001.
Their last reunion tour in 2019, which saw them play 13 shows, featured Geri Horner, Melanie C, Mel B and Emma Bunton, with Victoria Beckham deciding not to join.
