SPFL star 'tracked' by Celtic amid transfer interest

Dundee star Luke McCowan is being tracked by Celtic, according to a report.

Brendan Rodgers is believed to be an admirer of the 26-year-old midfielder.

The Dens Park playmaker, who contributed nine goals and five assists last season as Tony Docherty's side finished sixth, has just one more year left on his current contract.

And that could tempt the Scottish Premiership champions into a move in exchange for a fee this window, or on a pre-contract in January.

A piece on Sky Sports' website states: "The Hoops have been tracking Luke McCowan at Dundee."

They also say that Bosun Lawal - who spent last season on loan at Fleetwood Town - will get his chance in pre-season, with a deal with Benfica for Portuguese midfielder Paulo Dernardo edging closer. On that deal though, it's claimed Celtic want the finances to be closer to the £3.5m range, as opposed to Benfica's asking price of £6m.

James McCarthy, Gustaf Lagerbielke, Sead Haksabanovic, Mikey Johnston, Yuki Kobayashi and Hyeongyu Oh will all be allowed to leave this summer, with the latter subject of a £4m bid from Belgian side Genk.

Meanwhile, Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka has broken his silence on transfer interest from Celtic.

The 35-year-old has been linked with a move to Parkhead this summer as Brendan Rodgers searches for a new goalkeeper to replace Joe Hart.

Celtic have Scott Bain and Benji Siegrist under contract but are expected to sign a new number-one stopper after Hart retired from professional football.

And Dubravka has now revealed he is aware of speculation over a move to Celtic but refused to give a move any thought until a concrete offer is made.

The goalkeeper explained: "I am aware that there are rumours, teammates ask me about it, agents and people call me, if there is any truth to it."
