SPFL chiefs are hoping to fast-track the introduction of VAR in the Scottish Premiership.
Clubs voted in favour of the introduction of the technology in April this year, with the introduction expected to come after the winter break for the Qatar World Cup. But now, according to The Scottish Sun, clubs in Scotland's top flight are aware of plans that could see VAR operated in the league earlier than expected.
It is claimed that "major logistical issues" will mean it is impossible for VAR to be in operating in time for the beginning of the 2022/23 cinch Premiership campaign - with the first clashes less than two weeks away. But it is now thought that the technology will be function a few weeks before the clubs break for the World Cup.
Last month, SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell claimed that his own preference would see VAR brought in "as soon as we possibly could do it". And now the implementation could be taking place several weeks ahead of schedule.
Chief of referees Crawford Allan reportedly addressed the issue of fast-tracking VARs introduction at an SPFL annual general meeting yesterday. It is understood that the set up will still take a number of weeks, with all 12 top-flights clubs in need of the kit to run the technology.
But there is now understood to be a collective in place to speed up the process.
