A man has admitted causing serious injury to a woman by dangerous driving after a car fell onto the A1(M) from a flyover.
Hugh Raymond Holmes appeared at Durham Crown Court, via link from HMP Durham, on Monday facing serious charges dating back to January 21.
The 32-year-old pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking - a Vauxhall Astra - and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He also admitted to two further summary charges of driving without insurance and failing to provide a specimen of breath.
The court heard that the sentencing of Holmes would have to be adjourned so that further medical evidence could be provided.
Recorder Andrew Dallas adjourned sentencing until Wednesday, March 23.
He told Holmes, of Tudhoe Moor, Spennymoor, that the "appropriate credit" will be given following his guilty pleas and remanded him in custody until his next court appearance.
Emergency services were called to J61 Bowburn Interchange after a red Vauxhall Astra plunged onto the A1 from an overhead bridge, on the morning of January 21.
A woman in her mid-40s suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital, and was left in a critical condition.
During the hearing on Monday, prosecutor Robin Patton told the court the woman involved is "grateful to be alive".
