Speke Boulevard to remain closed tonight after bin lorry crash

Traffic is queuing as a major road remains closed after a crash and diesel spillage.

Merseyside Police were called to Speke Boulevard, at the junction of Speke Hall Avenue at around 4.30am on Monday, March 6, following reports of a crash. Once officers arrived at the scene they found a HGV, a bin wagon, and a Ford Fiesta had crashed on the road.

The North West Ambulance Service was called to the scene, with police later confirming slight injuries were reported. The crash also caused a huge spill of diesel across the carriageway, meaning the road was closed so Liverpool City Council could clean-up.

The road is still closed this evening, with queues forming on nearby streets. The Liverpool City Council Twitter account has now said the road will remain closed until tomorrow morning (Tuesday, March 7).

Liverpool City Council tweeted: "Road closure: Speke Boulevard (A561) remains closed from Evans Rd, heading to Knowsley, following a RTC which led to a large spillage of diesel. The junction will be resurfaced this evening with a view to reopening the road tomorrow morning.

"Diversions are in place via Speke Hall Rd, the A562 and Woodend Avenue. Please note right hand turn access from Speke Boulevard (A561) remains open to Liverpool Airport."

Merseyside Police Contact Centre said: "Due to planned resurfacing works, Speke Boulevard will remain closed this evening and will re-open tomorrow morning."
