Spectacular lights display returns to Nottingham gallery for first time in 3 years

Lakeside Gallery has announced the return of a brand new luminarium for summer 2022 for the first time in three years. The Nottingham-based company Architects of Air is celebrating its 30th anniversary year with the world premiere of its new design.

The new design, Dodecalis, will draw visitors through its labyrinthine shape and three domes where they can enjoy the vibrant neon colour display. The luminarium offers a sensory, magical and immersive experience.

Dodecalis will take place on Saturday 6 to Sunday, August 14 in Highfield's Park by Lakeside at Nottingham University. Luminarium is usually a sell out event so advance tickets are due to go on sale March 23 at 11am.

This is the first year that Architects of Air has been able to hold the popular event due to Covid and restrictions.

Dodecalis is named after the dodecahedron, a 12 sided platonic solid based on pentagons. The design features three domes and its asymmetric design aims to disorientate the visitor to make exploration more exciting. The design enables flowing 'neon-like contour lines of vibrant intensity.'

Timothy Rusby, of Lakeside Gallery, said: "Luminarium has been held at Lakeside for many years but 2020 was the first year in well over 15 years that we didn't host it. We didn't feel we were in a position to bring it back in 2021 because of the restrictions."

"Our partnership with the Architects of Air is as strong as ever. Although they are based here in Nottingham, they tour around the world. We thought it would be crying shame if the people here weren't able to experience the new creation before anyone else."

Lakeside is the ideal location for the Luminarium as it is near the park and also the lake. The warm weather in August makes it the perfect day out for families and adults.

Although the event is incredibly popular with young children, there will also be adult-only events held in the evening time.

Timothy said: "We hope audiences are feeling confident to return in the numbers they previously did. We typically see about 9,000 people go through the luminarium in a nine-day run. Although we do cap capacity so that we manage the numbers and there are never too many people in at once."

Tickets will go on sale for the event March 23 at 11am through the Lakeside website.
