Specialist cops and bomb disposal robot at bus station amid 'suspicious package'

THE bomb disposal unit has arrived at Buchanan Bus Station, after reports of a potentially suspicious package.

Specialist officers and a robot were pictured at the city centre travel hub after police cordoned off a large chunk of the area.

Access is restricted to several buildings on the street, including the bus station and Glasgow Caledonian University.

Officers are at the scene guarding the blue tape and bus links have been suspended.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Buchanan Bus Station is closed following a report of a potential suspicious item around 1.10pm.

"Killermont Street is closed to traffic and pedestrians. The public is advised to avoid the area. EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) has been notified and enquiries are ongoing."

A First Glasgow spokesperson said: "Due to an ongoing emergency incident at Buchanan Bus Station, services are currently unable to enter or leave the station which is currently closed to passengers.

"Emergency diversion information will be posted as soon as possible."

A spokesperson for SPT said: "Apologies all, Buchanan Bus Station is currently closed to passengers while police deal with an emergency incident.

"There is no access to the station for passengers and no buses are entering or leaving the station.

"We will update you when the station reopens. Apologies for the inconvenience."
