Popular local coffee shop chain Kin & Ilk has opened its seventh outlet in the Welsh capital. The Cardiff business has taken a lease at Wales’ tallest office building, Capital Tower on Greyfriars Road in the city centre.
The cafe is the latest addition at the 25-storey building where it will serve up its speciality coffee and menu of freshly-made sandwiches, soups and salads, cakes, coffees and pastries to the tower's occupiers.
Landlord Trinova, which purchased the building for £25m in 2018, was represented in the transaction by joint letting agents Knight Frank and Fletcher Morgan. Existing Capital Tower tenant Leap Legal Software Limited has also renewed its lease on a 2,155 sq ft office on the seventh floor for a further five years.

David Davies, founder of Kin & Ilk, said: “I always think of the prominent Capital Tower building as being synonymous with the city and the Cardiff skyline. There has been an incredibly positive reaction from the tenants and building management team at Capital Tower, and it’s a joy to work in the building.”
Mark Sutton, partner at Knight Frank, said: “Kin & Ilk have recently opened their latest coffee shop in Capital Tower and are already a hit with the occupiers.
Having an independent operator in the building allows them to tailor their offer to suit the tenants in Cardiff's tallest multi-let office tower and it’s a great addition to the on-site amenities.”
He added: “Capital Tower is now set up to accommodate a wide range of occupier requirements, from two desks for two months through to 100 desks for 10 years - and everything in between. The flexible 5,500 sq ft floor plate readily subdivides from 2,000-3,500 sq ft and we can accommodate requirements from 15 to 55 staff on a single floor. It’s an approach that is already proving successful with the changing dynamics of the office sector.”
John James of Fletcher Morgan said: “Capital Tower’s position within Cardiff’s core office and leisure district and at the heart of the city centre has always been a popular choice for occupiers, offering all of the city centre amenities on the doorstep, secure on site parking and with superb access to public transport links. The new coffee shop adds to its attraction.”
As well as office space under traditional lease agreements, Capital Tower has introduced new flexible options for tenants from a few desks in fully-serviced space, to a bespoke managed office agreement where the tenant pays a single monthly fee. The serviced and managed offering is being operated by Chadwick Business Centres.
