A special service for bereaved parents took place at the Crichton Estate in Dumfries on Saturday.
Baby loss charity SiMBA’s butterfly remembrance ceremony took place at the Tree of Tranquillity which was funded by the D&G Baby Loss Awareness group.
The group wanted to create a “positive out of something negative” and give parents somewhere they could go to remember their children.
Despite the tree being unveiled in December, 2020, the pandemic had meant the committee had been unable to bring parents together.
Lauren Brydson, of the group, welcomed more than 65 people to the event which saw individual wooden butterflies, engraved with names of babies, tied together and displayed as bunting before being gifted to families.
She said: “It was good to finally welcome everyone to the tree.
“We’ve been so grateful for the support we’ve received throughout from SiMBA, the Crichton Trust for giving us such a peaceful and tranquil location and to the wider community who have been excellent with us since we started.
“We’ve not been short of community support and that’s been demonstrated through all the various ways in which they’ve rallied together and supported us.
“Local businesses and individuals donated to the cause or fundraised themselves which was amazing.
“I’ve also received so many messages from people who felt less alone when they heard my story which makes it worthwhile.”
