Special meals for 7 days in UP schools: '....but where's the money for halwa?'

AGRA: Teachers of primary schools in UP are in a dilemma after the state government last week ordered that special meals -- halwa, kheer, ladoo, fruits apart from the regular ones -- be provided to students from August 11 to 17. No additional funds have been provided, teachers claimed, adding that they will have to now spend from their own pockets.

On August 2, the director of midday meal, Vijay Kiran Anand, had directed Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) of all districts to include special meals for students, as part of the work plan for 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' aimed to commemorate 75 years of Independence.
