Tom Sachs’ journey with Nike in the sneaker world has always been so fascinating.
Through his Mars Yard series, he’s created some of the most interesting shoes we’ve seen in years. They take all these pieces and cobble them together to make things built for rocket engineers and space travel. It’s incredible.
His new General Purpose Shoe isn’t that at all — it’s made with relatively mundane materials. There’s no space vacuum bag in the upper or a special forces boot outsole that they come with. Instead, they’re replaced by simple mesh and suede that stick together to make one dependable shoe.
With that being said, this is still one of Sachs’ best projects yet. We explain why on this week’s episode of Special Delivery. Tap in to find out why.
