Michigan State basketball took care of business in a special game for head coach Tom Izzo.
Izzo took his Spartans to where it all began for him in an exhibition matchup at his alma mater Northern Michigan. Michigan State led the whole way in a comfortable 70-53 victory over the Wildcats.
Michigan State used stifling defense to build a 31-19 lead at the break. The Spartans built off that lead early in the second half to build a comfortable cushion to coast to the victory.
Michigan State was led in scoring by true freshman guard Jace Richardson, who finished the game with 11 points. Right behind him was forward Xavier Booker who scored 10 points for the Spartans. Eleven different Spartans recorded points in the exhibition victory.
The exhibition opener was played at the Superior Dome in Marquette, Mich. This was the first of two exhibitions for Michigan State, who will next return to the court on October 29 against Ferris State at the Breslin Center.
