Spanish billionaire and Zara owner Amancio Ortega has acquired a Glasgow building for £200m.
Ortega is Spain's wealthiest man and founder of Inditex fashion brand - the owner of labels such as Berska, Massimo Dutti, and Stradivarius - procured the development through Pontegadea - Oretga's real estate agency, GlasgowLive reports.
The 86-year-old businessman launched his first Zara store with his wife back in 1975 in A Coruña, in the Galicia region in Spain, and is currently rated as the third richest man in Europe - with an estimated net worth of £46 billion.
Located on Bothwell Street, The 30,000 sq. ft building, will host offices for Transport Scotland, BNP Paribas, Virgin Money, Aecom, and other high profile tenants.
When completed it will be Glasgow's biggest office building and will feature a 8,000 sq. ft. rooftop terrace and running track, 318 cycle spaces and electric vehicle charging points, while catering for a workforce of around 3,500.
As we reported back in February 2020, 177 Bothwell Street is set to change the city's skyline for good, with estimates suggesting it will contribute £1.8billion to Glasgow's economy alone, and a further billion for the rest of the country, over the next 25 years.
The purchase of the Glasgow building comes three years after Ortega forked out around £588m for The Post Building in New Oxford Street in Central London.
