Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino scored the only goal of the game in second-half stoppage time, helping Spain to record a fourth straight win since being held to a surprise draw by Cape Verde in their opening match.
Belgium, meanwhile, have looked like a different prospect entirely since topping their group. A stunning comeback victory over Senegal set up a last-16 clash with co-hosts the USA, where they produced a statement performance.
The winners of this game will face favourites France in next week’s first semi-final clash after Les Bleus saw off Morocco 2-0 in Boston on Thursday.

Not many will have predicted Belgium to be here. Far from convincing in their opening two group games, trailing by two in the 85th minute against Senegal before taking on the host nation in the last 16.
