Spain is set to offer free rail travel to holidaymakers and locals to help people as the cost of living rises.
If you're heading to Spain in the next coming months, you'll be happy to know that travelling around popular regions is set to become cheaper from September to the rest of the year. Tourists will be able to take advantage of the scheme if they want to travel around Catalonia, Andalucía, and the Basque region.
This comes as the cost of living is rising, not only in the UK, but around Europe, and Spain socialist-led Government has confirmed that from September 1 until the end of 2022, train journeys in certain parts of the country will be free. Along with that, there will be a 30 per cent discount across all public transport in Spain including metros, buses, and trams.

There is a catch - the 100 per cent rail discounts will only apply to multi-trip ticket journeys on commuter services and or medium-distance routes that are less than 300km. Tourists can take advantage of this by purchasing multi-journey tickets.
Spain's Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, said: “I’d like the people of Spain to know that I’m fully aware of the daily difficulties that most people have. know salaries cover less and less and that it’s difficult to get to the end of the month.
“This measure encourages using public transport to guarantee a safe, reliable, comfortable, economic and sustainable means of doing the daily commute amid the extraordinary increase of energy and fuel prices."
This comes as Germany has launched discount tickets for the public to use. Germany launched a ticket scheme that runs from June until the end of August and only costs €9 a month.
