Spain star Dani Olmo makes new Euro 2024 Golden Boot vow as Harry Kane battle looms in final

Dani Olmo says he does not care if he wins the Golden Boot at Euro 2024 - as long as Spain beat England in Sunday’s final.

RB Leipzig midfielder Olmo is one of six players currently on three goals for the tournament, with UEFA confirming on Friday that the award will be shared if there is no clear winner with no tiebreaker used such as assists or minutes played.

Of the six players now tied for the Golden Boot lead, only Olmo and England captain Harry Kane can still add to their respective tallies this weekend, with the Netherlands’ Cody Gakpo, Germany’s Jamal Musiala, Georges Mikautadze of Georgia and Slovakia’s Ivan Schranz all now having exited the competition.

But Olmo, who has scored in every knockout round of the European Championship so far, is just focused on getting Spain over the line.

“I feel very good at this Euros,” he said. “Harry Kane and I are tied [for the Golden Boot], but if Fabian Ruiz scores, who has two, and even [Alvaro] Morata scores a hat-trick, then we’re [all] there. We’d be just as happy whoever does it.

“As long as we win, it doesn’t matter to me whether I score or [Spain goalkeeper] Unai Simon. It doesn’t matter at all, the important thing is to win the match.”

Spain have earned plenty of plaudits during their run to the final at Euro 2024, particularly for their style of football.

They have produced some of the most attractive and attacking play at the tournament and Olmo says that won’t stop now.

“If it’s working, why change it, right? We’re showing a unique and personalised style of play for the national team,” he said.

“We’re doing well, we have our weapons and it’s clear that we always have to do different things and new things because, as the manager says, we can always improve, but we’re preparing for the final in the same way as always.

“We also suffered [like England]. The game against Germany was not easy with that extra time or France, who came close to equalising again.

“We also have those bad experiences or those that need to be improved that have made us where we are now, and we will focus on what remains to us to do the best we can.”
