Former Boston Celtics big man Juancho Hernangomez picked a great moment to have one of his better games of the European Basketball Championship. His help off the bench for Spain kept Finland at bay in a 100-90 victory during the EuroBasket quarterfinals on Tuesday.
Hernangomez put up 15 points, 4 rebounds, an assist and a steal in just over 26 minutes of playing time for Spain, which won despite 28 points and 11 boards from Finnish and Utah Jazz star Lauri Markkanen. Hernangomez had a solid game everywhere but from beyond the arc (hitting just 2-of-7 from 3), connecting on 5-of-11 attempts overall and 3-of-3 from the free-throw line. He committed three personal fouls but no turnovers.
Spain will face Germany in Friday’s semifinals.
