The north east of Spain was battered by '10 minutes of terror' as giant hailstones descended on the region of Catalonia.
In one town of the popular region, a one-year old toddler lost her life after being hit during the hailstone storm.
On Tuesday, August 30, giant hailstones that measured up to 11 cm fell from the sky after Spain experienced extreme heat and drought over the summer.

Earlier this summer, holidaymakers were issued a warning to prepare for the high temperatures but now the regional weather forecasters have issued a new warning for an 'unstable' climate. The temperature is dropping on Wednesday, bringing with it the possibility of more hail.
A weather warning for storms has been issued in Pirineo de Girona, in the north of Catalonia, lasting until 10pm tonight. The town of La Bisbal d'Empordà already witnessed extreme hail storms on Tuesday which tragically killed a toddler.
Meanwhile in Barcelona, thunderstorms are forecasted through until Saturday afternoon, according to AccuWeather. The popular holiday hotspot experienced an intense storm on August 31 which left orange Mammatus clouds covering the sky.
Hail as wide as 11cm ripped through the town, shattering windows and puncturing holes in roofs. While the storm only lasted ten minutes, the town mayor, Carme Vall said: “The hail fell for only 10 minutes, but it was 10 minutes of terror."
She added: “We’ve had the awful case of the little girl who was hit by a stone. There wasn’t much that could be done for her and she died today. It was a terrible accident.”
Pere Aragonès, the Catalan regional president, said his thoughts were with the girl's family and everyone affected by the tragic storms.
In a statement on Twitter he said: “Painfully affected by this tragedy, I want to send my condolences to the family. A very big hug. Our full support for the residents of La Bisbal affected by the hailstorm. The government of Catalonia is on your side.”
