Thousands of Irish holidaymakers will be jetting off to Spain this summer, but tourists are being that a few popular beaches will be closed for the summer months.
Costa del Sol's Torrebermeja and Las Gaviotas beaches will be shut for parts of the week until July as part of ongoing improvement works on the Malapesquera breakwater, reports the Mirror. The authorities Benalmádena have said that these two beaches will be fully reopen in July at the earliest.
However, tourists won't have access to the sand or sea, but bars and restaurants in the area will still be open. The good news is that the beaches will only closed during the week and will be open during the weekend, meaning that holiday goers can still get a bit of sand in at some point.

Local councillor Encarnación Cortés, who is in charge of the beaches, said the Torrebermeja and Las Gaviotas beaches will be accessible to the public from Friday at noon when the trucks cease their activity, adding that the improvement works are expected to be ongoing until at least July 1.
She said: "We have also agreed with the company to open the affected beaches to the public during the weekends, from Friday at noon, when the trucks cease their activity, and we will condition the sand as quickly as possible for the arrival of the users.
“During the next few weeks, these beaches will not give tourists the good image they are used to, but it is a work that has been in demand by the beach sector for many years: the expansion of the dam will undoubtedly benefit the stabilization of this strip of the Benalmádena coastline.
"Next summer we will begin to experience the positive consequences of this action, and the affected beach entrepreneurs have received the news of the imminent start of the works with satisfaction, even though they are aware that they will be affected during its execution."
Irish tourists are also being urged to familiarise themselves with Spain's new rules from drink limits to smoking bans, resort dress codes, and more which could result in a hefty fine.
