SpaceX's Starship Finally Reaches Orbit — Here's Why the Mission Got Cut Short

A Fourteenth Flight, A First Orbit

SpaceX launched Starship from Starbase, on the Texas Gulf Coast near Brownsville, at roughly 7:48 a.m. Central time on Monday, sending the company's Super Heavy booster and its 33 engines skyward on the vehicle's fourteenth integrated test since 2023. Thirteen earlier flights had all stayed on suborbital paths, so Monday's attempt carried different stakes: it was the first designed to send the ship stage on a full trip around the planet.
