SpaceX has been launching astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS) and other other orbital destinations and returning them to Earth for both NASA and private companies since 2020. The company's current astronaut mission, NASA's Crew-11, is scheduled to launch on Aug. 1 after a delay that occurred on July 31 due to bad weather.
Crew-11 consists of NASA astronauts Zena Cardman (flying as commander) and Mike Fincke (serving as pilot) alongside mission specialists Kimiya Yui from the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), and Oleg Platonov, of the Russian space agency Roscosmos. This will be the first spaceflight for both Cardman and Platonov, the second for Yui and the fourth for Fincke.
