Southerner's bizarre Facebook post about moving to Greater Manchester... and the local replies are brilliant

A Southerner posted on Facebook about moving to a town in Wigan - and the responses were hilarious.

The man, named Jay, asked the Tyldesley Live community group to tell him what the crime rate is like there, ahead of his move from the south of England.

"Ok, so as a southerner whose going to be living in Tyldesley soon, on a scale of 1 being the Cotswolds and 10 being East Croydon, what's the crime rate like," he wrote.

"And do I need to get a cattle prod for potential muggers?"

He was met with some responses about how beautiful the countryside is, and how amazing the people are.

But most of the amusing replies were from long-standing residents making fun of their town.

Many sarcastic references to Mort Lane were made, which is well known among residents to be a nightmare for flooding.

Some locals even tagged their mates in the post, which received over 100 comments, pointing out how accurate the responses were.

One Facebook user, called Jason, wrote: "It's not as shabby as down south but Bojo (sic) is trying to level up.

"Watersports centre on Mort Lane well worth a visit.

"Guided tours of an Indian/Chinese buffet that's been opening soon for the past two years.

"If you have teeth, don’t go to Leigh, you won’t fit in.

"We are world leaders on pizza/kebab/haircut scene… never a dull moment with those crazy cats.

"No need to buy cannabis, just a walk down the Busway breathing in will do."

Another resident, named Simon, said there was no need to worry about the crime rate in Tyldesley - particularly compared to London.

"As a former resident of the Cotswolds I'd rate Tyldesley as a two," he wrote.

"Stuff happens but it's nowhere near an East Croydon situation. No need for a cattle prod but a torch and pitchfork isn't a bad idea."

Another user named Daniel said: "If you like fireworks, don't let anyone know... you will get chased out of town by an angry mob."

Other residents also warned the southerner about the infamous Mort Lane - which they advised him to stay clear of.

"Watch out for Mort Lane, forget your cattle prod... bring your Ark," one man joked.

Another local said: "Think you need to worry about Mort Lane being open more than the crime rate."

A resident named Michael joked about the number of barbers in the town, writing: "I hope you've not got long hair as we've currently got a shortage of barbers."

Another named Mike said: "There's another lovely little village up the road, Little Hulton, you might want to try that it's gorgeous."

"Never had any problems and the community is amazing" (ABNM Photography)

All in all, most people didn't have a bad thing to say about the town, with many commenting on the incredible community spirit.

"Lived here for 50 years, 32 in the street I'm in now," a woman named Debbie wrote.

"Never had any problems and the community is amazing at being there and supporting each other.

"If however you intent to bring a cattle prod stay where you are."
