The international break has provided some much needed respite for Leeds United, despite the fact that they have just won consecutive games against Norwich City and Wolverhampton Wanderers. That's because the win at Molineux came at a price in terms of injuries, as Patrick Bamford was forced off in the first-half, alongside Mateusz Klich and Diego Llorente. Meanwhile, Illan Meslier picked up an injury in the second half as well. Adding the fact that Raphinha and Robin Koch have had covid, Leeds will have been grateful to have had a gap in their fixtures.
With all of those players unavailable, it meant that the only senior players to travel for international duty were Daniel James and Stuart Dallas. Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper are now fit, but were not called up to their respective national teams as they haven't featured for Leeds since December. All of this means Jesse Marsch will have time to prepare his team for the match against Southampton next weekend with the majority of his first-team feeling fresh.
That's not going to be the case for Leeds' opponents, as the Saints will have had seven players involved in international fixtures. Leeds Live has the run down of those players and which fixtures they've been involved in.
