Southampton mock Everton fans with brutal "rocket" joke and Tripadvisor review

Southampton have posted a hilarious Tripadvisor review following their crucial 2-1 win against Premier League relegation rivals Everton on Saturday afternoon.

A group of Toffees fans tried to disrupt Southampton's preparations for the crucial six-pointer by setting off fireworks outside of their hotel during the early hours of Saturday morning. Yet it did not have the desired impact, as the Saints won at Goodison Park.

A video of the fireworks incident has gone viral and Southampton's social media team have made light of the situation by leaving a review on Tripadvisor after their victory. The Saints claim the only rocket they noticed was James Ward-Prowse's late winner.

The Tripadvisor post reads: "We can't say enough positive things about the Innside By Melia Liverpool! Had an important business trip to attend in the city and they were perfect hosts. The hotel ensured we were looked after and well-rested for our meeting, which was an extremely productive one.

"Rooms were brilliant, beds were incredibly comfy, and the blackout blinds and triple glazing... oh wow! You could literally have a firework display going on outside your window and you'd never know it. Best night's sleep we've ever had!

"In fact, the only rocket we noticed all weekend was the one James Ward-Prowse sent into the net in the 78th minute at Goodison. We'll definitely be returning again."

Southampton capped off the cheeky post by giving the hotel a five-star review and posting the headline: "Great trip and best night's sleep ever."

Southampton have every reason to be cheerful after their huge win against relegation rivals Everton. The Toffees established a half-time lead through Amadou Onana's strike, but a second-half brace from Ward-Prowse snatched all three points for the visitors.

Nathan Jones' side are still bottom of the Premier League table, but they are now just a point behind Bournemouth in 17th. They've also won three consecutive games after knocking Crystal Palace out of the FA Cup and Manchester City out of the Carabao Cup.

Everton, meanwhile, are in complete disarray. They are 19th in the table and have picked up just one point from their last seven Premier League games, leaving manager Frank Lampard fearing for his job. They also haven't won in any competition since October.

Yet the real chaos is happening off the pitch. Everton's chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale was reportedly put in a headlock in horrifying ordeal, while chairman Bill Kenwright has received death threats. The club's board couldn't attend the Southampton game because of a "real and credible threat to their safety and security".

Everton fans chanted "sack the board" on Saturday afternoon and had ugly confrontations with Anthony Gordon - who was called a f****** d****** by one supporter - and Yerry Mina. Everton's next game is against West Ham - another one of their relegation rivals.
