Newcastle United beat Southampton 2-1 to stretch their Premier League unbeaten run to nine matches as goals from Chris Wood and Bruno Guimaraes cancelled out Stuart Armstrong's opener.
The Magpies were forced into one change at St Mary's as Bruno Guimaraes was handed his first start for the club following his big money move from Lyon in January. Joelinton was the man who made way through injury.
United started positively but a lapse in concentration saw Southampton have the first major chance of the game. After Jonjo Shelvey lost control of the ball in midfield, Armando Broja was slid in on goal but he blazed over the bar from point blank range.
Newcastle didn't heed the warning, though, and Armstrong nodded home the opening goal with 25 minutes on the clock after he reacted quickest to Mohammed Elyounoussi's knock down.

But Newcastle hit back and Wood rose highest to meet Shelvey's wonderful cross to head home his first goal for the Magpies since his January move from Burnley.
The Saints almost regained the lead through Che Adams but the Scotland international's effort cannoned back off the crossbar and the Magpies were able to weather a late Southampton storm to go into half-time on level terms.
Newcastle tightened up in the second half, though, and managed to assert control of the game. And they were duly rewarded when Guimaraes' outrageous backheeled volley flew beyond Fraser Forster to hand the Magpies a 2-1 lead.
Southampton pressed for equaliser but struggled to create much of note as Newcastle held on for a win that lifted them 10 points clear of the Premier League's relegation zone. Here's how Lee Ryder rated the Newcastle United players.
Martin Dubravka 10
Some phenomenal saves as he faced 14 goal attempts from a home side that had previously lost just once here in the league.
Emil Krafth 8
Put his body on the line and played his part in a big defensive display.
Dan Burn 10
Absolutely bossed it with a commanding and composed display. If it moved he headed it clear.
Fabian Schar 8
Played through the pain barrier. A cool passer of the ball out of defence.
Matt Targett 8
Shone on his return to his old club. Needs to be signed for next season. Pummelled the Saints with seven crosses.
Bruno Guimaraes 10
The guy oozes quality. Had a hand in the first goal and scored a wonderful backheeled winner.
Joe Willock 9
Ran his socks off. One big crucial tackle at the end. A great effort.
Jonjo Shelvey 9
A big display from the captain. Great assist for the goal. Was hard on himself after Brighton but did up his game here.
Jacob Murphy 8
Much better after the break. Sparked the corner that led to the winner.
Ryan Fraser 7
A slight dip after some superb displays. Worked hard and ran himself into the ground.
Chris Wood 8
Broke his duck with a superb header that left Forster rooted to the spot. Won seven balls in the air overall.
Subs
Sean Longstaff 7 (for Bruno 67)
Stepped in and played his part.
Miguel Almiron (for Fraser 85)
Javier Manquillo (for Krafth 90)
*Subs must play 15 minutes to get a mark.
