A country club in northern NSW is facing a string of charges relating to the death of former professional surfer Chris Davidson.
The 45-year-old died in Kempsey hospital in September last year, after he was allegedly punched before hitting his head on the pavement outside the South West Rocks Country Club.
Following a police investigation, the club has been charged with 16 offences in relation to the incident.
The charges include a licensee permitting indecency or violence on licensed premises, five counts of a licensee failing to comply with conditions of a licence, and 10 counts of a club breaching registered club rules.
Mr Davidson was a revered surfer, having represented Australia at elite global events.
His death left the community of South West Rocks, where he had been living, in shock.
After the incident, 42-year-old South West Rocks man Grant Coleman was arrested and charged with assault causing death.
The charges against the South West Rocks Country Club will be mentioned in Kempsey Local Court on March 9.
