Two South West energy firms have been ordered to pay £4m in compensation after overcharging customers during the energy crisis.
Ovo Energy and Good Energy have been found by the energy regulator Ofgem to have made errors, in which 18,000 households did not receive the protection "they were due". Ofgem said it was “totally unacceptable” that people were overcharged during an “already so challenging and stressful time” for consumers.
Wiltshire-based Good Energy and Bristol-headquartered Ovo Energy have been accused of charging people above the maximum rates allowed under either the energy price cap or the Government's Energy Price Guarantee scheme.
