South Shields' Rosie Ramsey is first star confirmed for Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special

Tyneside's own Rosie Ramsey has said she is "thrilled" to be the first celebrity confirmed to be taking part in this year's Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special.

The South Shields star is following in the footsteps of her husband Chris Ramsey, who took part in Strictly back in 2019. Paired with Karen Hauer, 36-year-old Chris reached the semi-final after managing to impress the judges and ultimately landed fourth place - and his success has inspired Rosie to take to the dance floor herself.

Rosie will be paired with seasoned pro Neil Jones, and will be one of six couples to perform a Christmas -inspired routine in the hope of winning over judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke as well as viewers at home. It will be a very different venture for Rosie, who is known for her hit podcast with Chris, Sh**ged Married Annoyed, as well as The Chris & Rosie Ramsey Show on BBC Two.

Rosie said: "I am thrilled to be dancing in this year’s Strictly Christmas special! After watching my husband Chris compete a few years ago, I’ve been desperate to get on that dance floor myself!

"I also absolutely LOVE Christmas, and my partner Neil is lovely, so this is just perfect. Best. Christmas. Ever!"

Viewers will be able to catch Rosie and the other stars in action on Christmas Day, when the Strictly Christmas special is set to air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. And fans of the Tyneside couple won't have to wait long to see Rosie and Chris on their screens again - The Chris & Rosie Ramsey Show is set to return for a second series next year on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.
