MUMBAI: The BMC has proposed to set up three underground bins in South Mumbai at a cost of Rs 44.48 lakh. The tentative sites for installation of these bins are Machimar Nagar and Shiv Shakti Nagar in Cuffe Parade area.
The idea of underground bins for Mumbai was first mooted in the civic budget of February 2018, wherein it was announced that the city would get 'smart bins' that would be underground and have in-built sensors. The BMC said that the underground bin system shall be constructed in such a way that it shall carry two 1,100-litre garbage bins.
