South London council signs off plan for huge housing scheme at former gasworks with no affordable homes

Merton Council has signed off a third round of plans for the Mitcham Gasworks redevelopment, increasing the scheme to 626 homes but leaving it without a single affordable unit.

While developers cite viability concerns, critics argue the omission is “unconscionable” given that the project is being promoted as the “largest new housing development in Mitcham for a generation.”
