South Liverpool postcode that is one of England's 'asking price hotspots'

New data has revealed that two Merseyside areas are among England's 'asking price hotspots', with prices rising more than any other areas over the last year.

Rightmove's research has shown that asking prices in Newton-Le-Willows jumped 21% in February compared to the same month last year, rising to £203,150

A similar jump was recorded for Childwall, with a 20% increase in the same time period from £254,395 to £305,483 in a year.

Across Great Britain, average asking prices are up 9.5% annually in February but some areas are increasing more rapidly than others.

Brixham, Farnham and Jesmond are all among the top 10 areas with asking prices more than 22% higher than a year ago.

Here the top 10 asking price hotspots listed with the asking price in February 2022 compared to the asking price in February 2021 and the percentage of the price change:

  • Brixham, Devon, £329,699 - £264,254 and 25%
  • Jesmond, Newcastle Upon Tyne, £361,564 - £293,049 and 23%
  • Farnham, Surrey, £728,413 - £594,808 and 22%
  • Raunds, Northamptonshire, £281,279 - £232,724 and 21%
  • Gedling, Nottinghamshire, £256,897 - £212,570 and 21%
  • Newton-Le-Willows, Merseyside, £203,150 - £168,133 and 21%
  • Cowes, Isle Of Wight, £342,834 - £285,060 and 20%
  • Heysham, Lancashire, £189,527 £157,793 and 20%
  • Childwall, Merseyside, £305,483 - £254,395 and 20%
  • North Walsham, Norfolk, £274,490 - £228,788 and 20%

Tim Bannister, Rightmove’s director of property data said: "The rise in the number of buyers looking for a home by the coast since the pandemic started is still being felt in asking price rises nearly two years on as Brixham takes the top spot for annual asking price growth this month.

"The data shows that prices in the Devon borough of Torbay grew steadily between 2020 and 2021 as supply kept better pace with demand, but have accelerated over the last year as the number of buyers looking in the area has outpaced the homes available.

"However, a recent uptick in the number of new listings compared to last year will be some welcome news for those looking to buy in Brixham."
