South Korea's ruling party has announced its support for the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol following his controversial declaration of martial law, which led to a political crisis and widespread public outrage in the country.
The People Power Party (PPP) initially hoped for Yoon's resignation but shifted its stance after failed attempts to persuade him to step down. PPP leader Han Dong-hoon stated that impeachment is now deemed necessary to defend democracy and the republic.
