South Dublin County Councillor Emma Murphy becomes first woman LGBTQ+ Mayor

Emma Murphy South Dublin County Council Dublin

Fianna Fail Councillor Emma Murphy has been elected Mayor of South Dublin County Council, becoming the first LGBTQ+ woman elected to the office of Mayor in the Republic.

She was elected during today's annual meeting, which saw Labour Cllr Joanne Tuffy elected to the role of Deputy Mayor.

Speaking after her election Cllr Murphy said it is a "huge honour". She said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to have been elected as Mayor of South Dublin County Council.
