South Belfast: Man charged after £60,000 of drugs and large sum of cash recovered

A 27-year-old man has been charged with several offences including drug possession after £60,000 of drugs and cash were recovered.

It follows an incident in the South Belfast area in the early hours of Friday morning.

Two men had attempted to gain entry to flats in the King Street area at approximately 4.30am by banging on the door and making threats to the female occupant.

One of the men was subsequently arrested and following a search of his property, large quantities of suspected herbal cannabis were located in a bedroom.

The estimated value of the drugs is around £60,000. A large sum of money was also recovered.

PSNI Detective Sergeant McVeagh said: “The arrest followed a report of anti-social behaviour at flats in the King Street area of Belfast city centre at approximately 4.30am on Friday July 7th.

“Two men had attempted to gain entry to flats in the development by banging on the door making threats to the female occupant.

“One of the men was subsequently arrested and following a search of his property large quantities of suspected herbal cannabis were located in a bedroom. The estimated value of the drugs is around £60,000. A large sum of money was also recovered."

The man has since been charged with several offences including possession of a Class A controlled drug, possession of a Class B controlled drug, possession of a Class B controlled drug with intent to supply and possession of criminal property.

He is due before Belfast Magistrates’ Court at 10am on Monday July 10th.
