The man was the allegedly caught using the resident's bank card at a nearby shop.

Police South Belfast said: "Night shifts can be strange. Police received a report in the early hours of Tuesday morning that the residents of a shared house had disturbed a burglar stealing their TV. The resident was able to take a photo of the burglar before he scampered away. The residents also found that a bank card had been taken and a strange-looking small plastic bag had been left behind. Police were able to locate the TV a short distance away and return it.

"As police were speaking with the resident, she received multiple notifications on her phone that her bank card was being used at an all night shop nearby (there aren't many).

"Police went to said shop and arrested the male who was in the middle of his little spending spree. He stated police had no evidence to arrest him and started to spit at us. A search after arrest resulted in several 'deal' bags being found on his person as well as the bank card.

"One such deal bag had dropped out of his pocket when he was disturbed burgling the house. And yes the bag was distinctive enough to be attributed to him. To top it off, police viewed really good CCTV of the male using the bank card too. Oh yeah, we also had a picture of him...

"The male has been overnight charged to court. He can plead his case with a judge. Lisburn Road LPT B Section."
