The South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) has confirmed that one of its umpires has been charged with possessing or controlling child abuse material.
The 40-year-old man has been charged with offences including soliciting child abuse material online and possessing or controlling child abuse material.
Detectives arrested the man on Tuesday, October 11, and he remains in custody.
He will face court on November 8.
He will also be charged for allegedly failing to disclose his working with children status.
A SACA spokesperson said in a statement that police made the association aware of the arrest.
"This person has undertaken umpiring duties in SA," read the statement.
"There is no suggestion that the offences relate to cricket in South Australia, or the participation of children in cricket.
"Upon notification, SACA immediately terminated the umpire's engagement.
"Parents and carers are being informed in line with Australian Cricket's Policy for Safeguarding Children and Young People.
"SACA is unable to provide further comment as the matter is now before the courts."
SA Police said they would be be working with sporting clubs in Adelaide's south to ensure all club members had the appropriate working with children checks ahead of the weekend.
