Northern Illinois is weighing an offer to leave the MAC and join the Mountain West Conference as a football-only member, a source told Sports Illustrated's Bryan Fischer. The news of the offer for Northern Illinois was first reported by Action Network.

Per a source, NIU has been weighing an offer from the MWC as a football-only member for several weeks and are expected to make a formal decision soon, as @Brett_McMurphy reported. Deal to join would come with an increased conf. distribution over the MAC even as a FB-only member.
