The Sony WF-1000XM5 sound very different to their predecessors, but in a very good way – the sonic profile is a little less fun, but more analytical and 'hi-fi'. They pack new features, a smaller, lighter build and better noise-cancelling. They are better than the XM4 in almost every way.

The Sony WF-1000XM4 are still up there among the best wireless earbuds around, they are just outdone by their successors. But if you want great sound quality and noise-cancelling for a fair bit less than the latest and greatest, keep your eyes peeled for a bargain. There has never been a better time to buy.
