Sony Comments on the PS6 Price and Release Date While Promising No 'Significant Losses' on Hardware

Sony said it was 'not realistic' to absorb every increase in component costs. It also said sales were proceeding as planned despite price increases already introduced outside Japan (Credit: Sony Official Website)

The PS6 price and release date remain unconfirmed as Sony weighs rising component costs and its approach to hardware profitability. During a 5 June investor Q&A, Sony said it does not intend to sell hardware at 'significant losses.' The company had already said in May that timing and pricing for its next-generation platform were undecided.

Outside reports have discussed a possible 2027 launch and four-figure pricing for Sony's next console. Sony has confirmed neither. Its public comments instead show the company assessing market conditions, manufacturing costs and profitability before setting its next-generation strategy.
