Fans of the Sonic franchise got to experience a new perspective with Sonic X Shadow Generations that combines the series' classic feel with innovative new features.

What this means is that newcomers to the franchise who are starting with the recently released entry should take note of a few things before getting started.

This beginner's guide provides some tips and tricks to help players who haven't tried previous games in the series get comfortable.

Which Mode To Play First

Newcomers to the series should start out with the Sonic Generations mode before diving into the more complicated Shadow Generations. The latter has a lot of new mechanics that can overwhelm you if you haven't mastered the basics yet.

These include Doom Gear and Chaos Control which add a new layer to Sonic X Shadow Generations' combat. When you get a hang of the basic mechanics, you will be able to have an easier time clearing the more challenging mode, according to The Gamer.

Keep Your Rings Safe

In Sonic X Shadow Generations, a player's rank is calculated by clear time and the number of rings you have at the end of a stage. This means that collecting as many rings as you can will help you get a higher rank.

The majority of rings appear at the center of the stage, so it is highly recommended to stay there the longest and only move to the left or right if needed. You lose rings by getting hit by enemies or obstacles throughout the course.

When you are hit, rings will come out of you and you have a few seconds to try and reclaim the lost rings before they completely disappear. However, try not to spend too much time getting these as it could significantly slow down your completion time.

Grab Machine Parts

There are many collectibles that players can find in Sonic X Shadow Generations and Machine Parts are one of these. These include bolts, screws, washers, and other mechanical parts that are scattered throughout the world, Kotaku said.

The main issue with these is that they are usually hidden in some obscure area that cannot be accessed through the main path. There are a total of 80 and missing some can make it much more challenging to backtrack and complete them.

Other Things To Note

Sonic X Shadow Generations also introduces some gameplay tweaks to the original 2011 gameplay. While the core experience remains relatively the same, the fact that there is no Life system spices things up a bit.

The game also offers different camera customization settings that let you view your runs in a variety of ways.

Arguably the biggest change is the introduction of Shadow's Doom powers which give him a bit more complexity compared to his blue counterpart, according to Gaming Bolt.
