

From the get-go, we’ve been very pleased with Sonic Racing CrossWorlds. The game has only gotten better since launch, thanks to strong content updates like the SpongeBob DLC. It has consistently been an enjoyable game, and SEGA’s latest report for Q2 of Fiscal Year 2026 shows that the game was able to surpass 1 million sales just a few months into launch.
However, SEGA is also apparently not fully pleased with the performance.
“We recently announced that worldwide cumulative sales have surpassed 1 million units. However, initial performance did not meet our expectations, and we are aiming to sell approximately another 1 million units within this fiscal year. We aim to sustain long-term sales by encouraging players to enjoy the game over time through the continued support of the title, including the ongoing release of additional downloadable content.”
What Does SEGA Need To Do For More Sales?

We previously talked about some “deep cut” characters that could benefit the circuits of Sonic Racing CrossWorlds. But while having Surge and Mighty as playable characters would be cool, that’s not going to attract a mainstream audience. They should still be adding some of these “niche” characters to appease dedicated SEGA fans, but the real money is in the bigger collaborations.
For example, the Hatsune Miku, SpongeBob, and Minecraft DLCs were able to gain a lot of attention for SEGA. We still don’t have details of additional sales post Switch 2 launch, so we can only estimate that the game has done well on the platform.
Some players on Reddit think the low sales are due to the pricing. Sure, $70 as a standard racing game makes sense, but the fact that you need a Season Pass to fully enjoy all the content (or buy separate DLCs) is a bit off-putting for some people. There’s also the fact that people will be more confident in spending a similar amount of money on more established kart racers like Mario Kart World.
None of this takes away from the fact that this is a great game, and at the very least, worth the base price. However, SEGA will really have to cook up some more enthralling content or have more frequent sales if they want to increase player count.
