When Player.One first covered Sonic Blitz, the pitch was genuinely interesting: Rovio, the Angry Birds studio Sega bought in 2023, was trying to turn Sonic into a fast, card-driven mobile game — something closer to Marvel Snap than to the endless runners the franchise has leaned on for a decade.
That experiment is over. And so, it turns out, is Rovio's Copenhagen operation.
