Sonia Gandhi Hospitalised in Delhi, Condition Stable: Doctors Monitoring for Possible Infections

According to hospital authorities, the 77-year-old leader was admitted on Tuesday at around 10:22 pm. Dr. Ajay Swaroop, Chairman of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, stated that Gandhi is being evaluated for a possible infection in the stomach and urinary tract.

“She is stable. Doctors are conducting further investigations to check for possible infection in the stomach and urinary tract. A team of doctors is closely monitoring her condition, and antibiotics have been administered,” Dr. Swaroop said.

Initial reports suggest that Sonia Gandhi was admitted after experiencing respiratory discomfort. Following a detailed medical examination, doctors noted a mild exacerbation of her bronchial asthma, likely triggered by the combined effects of cold weather and high pollution levels in Delhi. As a precautionary measure, she has been kept under observation for further medical management.

In light of her health condition, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has cancelled his scheduled visit to Kerala, where he was expected to launch the party’s election campaign with a rally in Kozhikode. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has reportedly stepped in to attend the कार्यक्रम in his place.

This is not the first time the veteran leader has been hospitalised in recent months. She was admitted in June last year due to stomach-related issues and was kept under observation in the gastroenterology department. Earlier in the same month, she had also been admitted to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla.

Sonia Gandhi, a key figure in Indian politics and a former Congress president, continues to be under close medical supervision as doctors monitor her recovery.
