A son who avoided jail after stabbing his mum in the back is now behind bars after he breached an order by visiting her home.
Ryan Turnbull was given a suspended sentence in March 2017 for knifing the pensioner inside her Annitsford house, causing her to suffer a collapsed lung and need a chest drain and stitches. The 28-year-old was also made subject of an indefinite restraining order, which banned him from pestering his mother or attending her address.
However, on New Year's Day, Turnbull flouted the order for the fourth time since it was imposed by turning up in a taxi at her home and asking her to pay for it, a court heard. When neither had the funds for the fare, the cabbie called the police and Turnbull was found at the address and arrested.

Turnbull, formerly of the Wallsend and North Shields areas but currently of no fixed abode, has now been remanded in custody after he pleaded guilty to breaching a restraining order at North Tyneside Magistrates' Court. The case was adjourned for sentence until January 19 to link up with other matters Turnbull faces.
Prosecutor, Paul Clark, said Turnbull turned up in a taxi at his mother's home on New Year's Day and asked if she could pay for it. Mr Clark continued: "She didn't have the money either and he was asked to leave but refused to do so.
"The defendant says he was invited to attend the address as his mother had called him previously. However, there is body-worn video footage from officers who arrested him at the scene, which indicates that he was not invited nor allowed to be there."
The court heard it was the fourth time Turnbull, who has 79 offences on his record, had breached the restraining order since March 2017 and he was also on bail for other criminal matters at the time.
David Parish, defending, said Turnbull had been invited by his mum to her home as he was homeless and it was the taxi driver who phoned the police when neither had the means to pay him. Mr Parish added: "Since 2017, Mr Turnbull and his mum have long-since reconciled. He has been homeless and he has been in and out of hospital between November 9 and December 23. He's had infections."
