Former deputy prime minister Somkid Jatusripitak has resigned from all positions in Saha Pathana Inter-Holding Plc (SPI) as he prepares to accept the PM nomination of the Sang Anakhot Thai (Building Thailand's Future) Party (SATP).
SPI issued a letter to inform the Stock Exchange of Thailand of Mr Somkid's resignation as member and chairman of the company's board of directors, effective Aug 31.
The SPI said Mr Somkid left the company as he had other endeavours to pursue.
Wichian Chavalit, an SATP deputy leader and party director, said Mr Somkid's resig- nation from the SPI was to prepare the ground for him to accept the prime ministerial candidacy which is set to be announced later this month.
However, the unveiling could come sooner than expected after SATP leader Uttama Savanayana said last week the party's choice would be made known before the organic bill on the election of MPs is passed into law. The bill is being reviewed by the Constitutional Court.
Sontirat Sontijirawong, the party's secretary-general, previously said Mr Somkid had accepted an invitation to be named the party's choice of prime minister.
Information about Mr Somkid quitting the SPI was on Saturday relayed by Suranand Vejjajiva, another SATP deputy leader, on his Facebook page, followed by the message: "Please stay tuned for more news."
