Someone's going round a quiet Newport suburb wrecking car tyres with six inch screws

Car tyres are being destroying by someone deliberately inserting six inch screws into them, according to the angry residents of one quiet suburb. Vehicles owners who live in Rogerstone, Newport have been using social media to fume about the spate of attacks which have left them having to fork out for costly repairs.

One woman posted on her community Facebook page late last week to warn others after discovering one of the tyres on her Seat car had a large screw sticking out of its side wall. Taking it to her local garage she was told the tyre was irreparable and would have to be completely replaced.

In addition, staff there also informed her it wasn't the only such example they'd seen recently. Furthermore, her online post prompted dozens of responses from locals who've also suffered similar acts of vandalism.

"The angle of the screw would suggest it hasn't been picked up off the road," replied one person. "That's 100% deliberate."

"I'm in Rogerstone and I've had two like this in five months," said another. "Both times in the same place so it can't be repaired."

"Happened to us too," read a third comment. "Had the exact same thing last week," added someone else who lives nearby.

The woman, who asked not to be named, has since appealed for anyone who's experienced the same problem to report it to the police and to share any CCTV camera footage they might have in order to track down the culprit.

WalesOnline contacted Gwent Police and a spokesperson confirmed it had received a report of criminal damage. Anyone who might have any information should contact the force by calling 101 or by sending a direct message on social media.
