Some Wet Macular Degeneration Patients May Someday Need Eye Injections Only Twice a Year After Kodiak Trial

For many older adults with wet age-related macular degeneration, protecting their eyesight means an injection in the eye every one to two months, often with a family member driving them to and from the clinic. On Sept. 28, Kodiak Sciences reported that its experimental drug Zenkuda (tarcocimab tedromer) matched the vision gains of aflibercept, sold as Eylea, in the Phase 3 DAYBREAK trial. By the end of the first year, 54% of patients on Zenkuda had reached a six-month gap between injections.

The drug is not approved. In its announcement of the topline DAYBREAK results, Kodiak said it plans to file for FDA approval in the fourth quarter of 2026, so any decision is likely many months away. Detailed results have not been published in a peer-reviewed journal.
