Matty Healy says he regrets some of the eyebrow-raising comments he has made in the past and wishes he could take them back.
The 1975 frontman has come under fire a number of times in the past including most recently on The Adam Friedland Show earlier this year when he laughed at derogatory comments made towards female rapper Ice Spice.
He also faced the wrath of Harry Styles’ loyal fanbase when he accused the Watermelon Sugar singer of “queerbaiting”.
While Healy didn’t clarify what exactly he was referring to, he admitted that he had got “some stuff wrong”.
Appearing on stage with his band at Finsbury Park, the son of former Coronation Street and Loose Women star Denise Welch said: “I was always trying stuff and some stuff I got right and some stuff I got wrong.
“But you know what, there’s a lot of things that I’ve said, jokes that I’ve made, that I would take back.
“You know what, there’s probably a couple of f****** songs that I’d take back if I had the choice.
“What I mean is that I really am only doing this because I want to make you guys laugh and feel good. That’s what my favourite art does and that’s what I’m trying to do.
“I get a bit excited. And, you know what, I’m f****** proud of myself.”
Healy enjoyed a whirlwind romance with fellow musician Taylor Swift in May, but it was all over after just a month.
Swift’s fans were not impressed by her choice in suitor due to his wildman reptuation and were quick to highlight his errors when she announced that she had collaborated with Ice Spice.
